A new leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has formally assumed duties. 

Speaking at the maiden press conference to announce the takeover, the new President, Alabi Kolade David, said his emergence portends good omen for the association.

He also promised to end what he described as the prolonged challenge of marginalisation and liaise with state governments, continually, to transit effectively from tenures without acrimony.

“With this mindset and not withstanding our diversity, we shall align, co-operate and collaborate with our respective state authorities for the general advancement of our people. The kernel of advancing our cause towards an enviable trajectory is my vision, and an unbiased or subjugated relationship is my mission. 

“We are going to provide a purposeful leadership for all local governments that people would be proud of. All hands are not equal, but, to the best of my knowledge, where I’m from, Lagos, all local governments are performing creditably well. Now that I’ve been given the mantle of leadership, of course, I have to move round and check. It is after then that I can tell you which one is performing and the ones that are not.

David, promised to put machinery in place that would ensure stability within the association, saying the local governments have always had the problem of stability.
