As part of events marking the 2018 new year celebrations, the Adamawa state governor, Sen. Mohamadu Jibrilla Bindow has pardoned 39 prisoners serving various jail terms in Adamawa state.
This was contained in a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ahmad Sajoh Monday.
The statement explained that eleven of the released prisoners were from Yola prison, nine from Jimeta prison and one of convicts from Ganye prison.
The measure was part of the prerogative of mercy by the governor and acting on the advisory committee of the Prerogative of mercy headed by Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Silas Sanga.

Others released prisoners were nine from Jada prison and seven from Numan prison while two others had their death sentences commuted to life sentences.

The statement added that all necessary steps, have been taken by the prison authorities on the warrant signed by the governor to ensure compliance with the Prerogative of mercy pronouncement.

The released prisoners were advised to use their newly earned freedom to turn a new leaf in their lives.
