Manchester City will continue its quest for multiple pieces of silverware today with a return to FA Cup action, but they might find the game tougher than the level of their opponents suggests.

City will travel to 15th in League Two Newport County and considering the way they dismantled League One side Burton Albion 10-0 over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final, it should be an easy win for the Blues.

However, Rodney Parade, with its boggy, bobbly pitch – that plays host to two rugby teams – is a far-cry away from the golf greens that the City stars were accustomed to. County have claimed many of upset in recent times at their home.

Just this season alone, Newport knocked Premier League side, Leicester City and the Championship’s Middlesbrough out of the Cup on their own patch.

It’s nothing new for the Welsh team either, as last season they knocked out League One’s Walsall and the Championship’s Leeds United (who they lost to 5-1 at Elland Road in the League Cup) at home.

They even managed to hold Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade, with only a late Harry Kane equaliser preventing an historic victory.

So the trip to Newport may not be a walk in the park for City, or at least it won’t be one they’ll take without getting muddy.

It’s hard to predict what sort of team Pep Guardiola will opt for when facing League Two’s Newport.

On one hand, like he did in the first leg against Burton, Guardiola likes to show respect to lower league opponents in the cup competitions and takes nothing for granted. He did also play a complete first-team side in the last round, albeit against Premier League opposition in Burnley.

On the other this is a game against average League Two opponents and even more importantly it’ll be played on a troublesome pitch that could lead to potential injuries ahead of City’s Champions League clash with Schalke the following Wednesday.

It may be safe to assume that it will be a mixed team that will feature a couple of youngsters – like Phil Foden, Philippe Sandler and Arijanet Muric – but will mostly be comprised of first-teamers who haven’t had a lot of game time lately, such as Gabriel Jesus, Fabian Delph and Riyad Mahrez.City will continue to be without Vincent Kompany, Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo.
