The Nigeria Institute Of Architects has rounded off its 62 Annual General meeting with a call for a multi disciplinary approach to end building collapse in the country.
Speaking at a media parley to mark the end of this year’s AGM held at the Calabar International Convention Centre at the weekend with the theme, “Architecture: A Resource For health and well-being,” the Ist Vice President of the institute, Arch. Mobolaji Adeniy, decried the incessant collapse of budings leading to death pf many occupants.
According to Arc. Adeniyi, “building collapse involves a multi-disciplinary approach because many people are involved.
“Even the materials used for construction which in some cases are substandard is also a factor. The most important step to take is to ensure that licenced professionals are in place”, she said.
On flooding, she said the issue is in the front burner and the country needs to have a building code properly in order as a legal body.
About seven papers were presented by resource persons including the launch of a  book “reflections of an architect” by Arc. Charles Maduka, which is a compilation of papers written in the This Day newspapers on everyday issues.
Some dignatories that attended the event included Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party and Omoleye Sowore, Presidential candidates of the Labour Part (LP) and African Action Congress (AAC) respectively.
