Despite heavy presence of Nigerian military personnel in the Niger Delta, an oil well operated by Chevron has been blown up, the Niger Delta Avengers claimed on Wednesday.
In a tweet, the Avengers claimed the attack was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday at about 03.44 hours.
“With the heavy presence of 100 Gunboats, 4 Warships and Jet Bombers NDA blew up Chevron Oil Well RMP 23 and RMP 24 3:44am this Morning.
“This is to show the whole world that Nigeria Military is good in harassing innocent Civilians.
“RMP 24 and RMP 23 are Chevron Swamp Highest producing Wells. #Boom,” the Avengers tweeted.
The Avengers have intensified attacks on oil installations across the Niger Delta region in the past weeks.
They have also vowed to sustain the attacks, calling on Tompolo to join them in the struggle.
The recent attacks have dealt heavy blow on Nigeria’s oil production, which has dropped to about 1.1 million barrels per day, the lowest in recent time.
However, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Government on Tuesday at a forum organized by the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, ruled out negotiation with the Avengers.
