Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria bore over 40 percent of global fistula burden, and only its elimination could further improve the health and developmental indices in Nigeria.

To this end, government, on Tuesday, inaugurated inter- ministerial committee on the establishment of the National Obstetric Fistula Centres in some states, that would focus on prevention, treatment, training and research.

Director, Family Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi, revealed the information in Abuja, during the inauguration of inter-ministerial committee on the establishment of the center.

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who inaugurated the committee, appealed to the committee members to see to the successful establishment and smooth take-off of the centers for maximum impact.
