The National Coalition of Polling Units Ambassadors (NACOPUAM) has kicked against the endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, by the Northern Leaders Consultative Forum (NLCF).

In a communique signed by Prof. Doknan D.D Sheni and former Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtari Shehu Shagari, the group adopted PDP and Atiku/Okowa presidential ticket as the right choice for the country.

But in a swift reaction, NACOPUAM at a press conference held in Lagos expressed disappointment on the declaration of the Northern leaders.

Speaking for the coalition, the convener and project director, Taiwo Ajayi, said the endorsement of the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku, by the NLCF was a joke taken too far.

“ We regard the so-called endorsement of PDP and Atiku  as an unfortunate situation;  how can they even support the idea of a northerner handing over to another northerner at this time when other regions were seriously complaining and calling for equal opportunities and balancing in the democratic arrangements of governance in our dear country, Nigeria; we cannot imagine the moral justification behind the endorsement of a northerner again after the 8 years of a northerner

“We, therefore,  want to advise the elders in question to stop what we refer to as an act that can set our country ablaze; we would therefore advise the northern elders in question to please change their mindset and support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed of APC as their prefered presidential candidate for 2023 elections in the spirit of fairness, true democratic values, and his mission to transform Nigeria for the betterment of the citizens irrespective of the tribe and colour”, he said.

Ajayi disclosed that NACOPUAM was a project of necessity initiated by the Asiwaju Presidential Agenda.

He said the coalition was borne out of a genuine desire to make good use of many Tinubu/Shettima Support Groups that had been working tirelessly without any serious recognition by breaking them into polling units with a specific assignment to be carried out in their different locality.
