Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and a Tinubu support group, Asiwaju Grassroots Talk (AGT), yesterday, vowed to mobilise no less than 1million votes in support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader, and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election.

The development came as the aspiration of the APC presidential candidate, Bola received a boost with over 120 groups pledging their support for his victory at the poll.

Speaking Thursday at a seminar on National Voting Fortune under the theme ‘Political Evangelism: Raising Active Voters Above 50%’, organised by the AGT in conjunction with APC Lagos State, they noted that Lagos State is not ready for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party.

“This is Lagos State; we are not ready to be governed by any of the opposition political parties”, Sanwo-Olu said, and added that AGT is not like other groups making noise on social media group, but an active political movement.

He added, “This is not a group on the social media, where people tell lies and deceive people, we are an active group, and our next seminar would be at the stadium. We must go out and talk about our leader and to convince the people that is time for Tinubu to take over the leadership of the country and make it better. We should also support our National Assembly members and vote for APC in the governorship election. We have not completed the job you gave to us. We need you to vote for us.”

He noted that Tinubu is a liberal-minded politician who has impacted on the lives of many Nigerians and noted that the APC presidential candidate would do more as president of Nigeria.

Also speaking, chairman of the APC in Lagos State, Chief Cornelius Ojelabi thanked AGT for partnering with and projecting the party across the state.

He noted that Lagos State under Gov Sanwo-Olu has continued to make progress.

“Gov Sanwo-Olu has been trying, none of our tertiary institutions is on strike. We can see the road construction and the hospitals that he has built. Take the message to the youths as there is no discrimination in Lagos State. There is peace in the state as the governor provides adequate security for us in the state”, Ojelabi said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Director General and Convener of the programme and member of the Governing Council of the Lagos State University, Dr. AbdulAkeem Olamilekan Adetugbobo said the group would mobilise critical stakeholders across the community development associations (CDAs) for the election.

Meanwhile, the Oodua Peoples Congress(OPC), vigilante groups, Agbekoya, hunters and 119 other groups have declare support for Tinubu’s aspiration

The groups which declared their support were mostly based in South West and it  comprises of  different civil society organisations, pro democracy organisations, among others.

The endorsement by the groups under the umbrella of Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements (AYDM) was made public in a hall within St. Leo Catholic Church, Ikeja, Lagos .
