Nigeria gets FIBA 3X3 World Cup wildcard

Nigeria will compete in the 2018 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Manila, Philippines after being awarded a wildcard by the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA).

The news about Nigeria’s qualification for the competition scheduled for June 8 to June 12 was relayed through a letter to the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).

It was signed by by FIBA 3×3 Development Manager, Robert Rieblinger.

Nigeria’s 3×3 team, captained by Abdul Yahaya, won their first FIBA Africa 3×3 Nations cup title in Lome, Togo recently.

Nigeria is currently ranked 5th in Africa and 67th in the world and will be making their first appearance at the world stage in the history of the 3×3 World Cup.

The competition’s inaugural edition was held in 2017 at Nantes in France.
