On Saturday, September 16, top politicians, businessmen, captains of industries and traditional rulers gathered at the prestigious Chelsea Hotels in Abuja to witness the installation of the 14th President of Inner Wheel Club of Abuja, Lady Blessing Ifeyinwa Nwaoba.
Inner Wheel Club of Abuja is an offshoot of International Inner Wheel District 913 Nigeria, a charitable association comprising wives of Rotarians and other women who have the passion to help the less privileged in the society.
The well-attended event, had senators, both former and serving, in attendance. It was chaired by Senator Osita Izunaso, national organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As for the lady of the moment, Nwaoba, it was accolades upon accolades. When she took the centre stage to give her remarks, she rolled out plans of how she will lead the organisation.
“Today marks yet another epoch making day in the history of the Club,” she began.
“My executives and I are poised to work hard and tailor our projects towards the achievements of this noble club with the cooperation of all of you. In the past years, we have immensely supported the course of the less privileged, orphans, widows, indigent students, HIV/AIDS victims, amongst other needy individuals in Abuja and its environs.
“This year, we have come up with some key projects in line with this year’s theme, which is estimated to cost about N25 million. We will execute these projects and touch as many more lives as possible.
“We can leave a lasting legacy by the little things we do today. I humbly pledge on my honour, that I accept to pilot the ship of Inner Wheel Club of Abuja for the next one year.”
She was not alone. Her husband, Mr. Peter Nwaoba, also pledged to support when needed.
“You have never been found wanting in any leadership position entrusted on you, which you have always combined effectively with your concurrent office and domestic roles, as well as your religious life. We pray that you will also excel in this onerous responsibility and confidence your Club is reposing on you,” he said.
Chairman of the event, Senator Izunaso and others also pledged in cash and kind to assist the Club to succeed.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards.
