THE League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has condoled with the Enugu State government and people of the state on the penultimate Monday killing in Nimbo in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The group also lauded the Senate’s position on Cattle Grazing Bill which has been rejected.
While regretting that the ugly incident which claimed the lives of over 20 people including children, occurred at the time the federal government was making efforts to ensure unity and lasting peace, with a view to attracting investments to the country. The group urged the people of Enugu State not to allow the mayhem douse their faith in the government.
LAP is a non-partisan association of professionals from Anambra State with the mission of promoting a secure and prosperous Nigeria and Anambra State in particular.
A statement by the group’s National President , Mr. Willy Nzewi, which condemned in strongest terms the blossoming atrocities of the suspected Fulani herdsmen in the country prayed that Almighty God should give the people of Enugu State the courage to bear the loss of their loved ones. It urged the federal government to take urgent measures to stem the menace before it snowballs into another bout of crisis that will not do the country any good.
LAP said the barbaric activities of the nomadic elements is tantamount to waging war against the country, adding that if concrete steps were not taken to address the problem, the herdsmen, who now carry out their barbaric operations with glee as they criss-cross the country, will put the nation into serious danger.
It described what happened in Nimbo as a national calamity and an act of barbarism, calling on President Mohammadu Buhari to immediately stem further killings, and ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to book.
