The Post Master General, Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST), Adepoju Sunday has disclosed that over the past one year, the service  has clamped down on illegal courier companies/operators nationwide.

The PMG, who is also  the chief executive officer  noted that the exercise was ongoing considering the fact that the clampdown, new unregistered ones are rearing their ugly heads.

He said  the post was taking cognizance of the need to rebrand the post, “our physical structures and enhance staff productivity.”

He noted that  these cannot be achieved without an enabling customer push, thus the need to sustain and improve “our customer base,” calling for continuous patronage of the post.

Adepoju said the post has been one of the enduring legacies transferred “to us from generations past, noting that it has evolved over the years  as a foundation for service offerings by every level of government.

The new NIPOST is better equipped to render the services required and needed in Nigeria. We are upping the ante in e commercea and e economy.”

The State Postal Manager, Lagos Island, Barrister Emmanuel Ajaero said the NIPOST of today has gone beyond postage stamp. “Today, the advent of technology is an enabler  for NIPOST because it has enhanced our process such that you can now track items from the comfort of your home. It has enabled address verification system and others.

One of the major challenges in the country today is poor addressing system and  that is one of the things that the post code and AVS are trying to solve.”

On her part, Director of Operations, Mrs Toyin Egbesola, noted that  there were lots of differences today  in operations compared to NIPOST of the past.  “We can now track the history of letters from point of posting to destination.

We have more vehicles,  our airlines are more regular, mail movement is our core mandate but we have diversified into other spheres.  We sell as agents, do EMS, mail service, speed post among others. We license courier operators. We are into cargo logistics.  We have to move with the trend so we have diversified. We are fully automated. We are under the universal postal union . Every postal activity must be ICT driven. So, we are fully automated. We can still be better.
