The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State command, has arrested three Republic of Benin nationals in Aiyetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, for being possession of a locally-made gun, charms and other dangerous items.

The suspects were Muheedeen Dikou, Francis Akete and Inyas Akete.

According to the Controller of Immigration in Ogun State, Ajibola Bayeroju, the trio were arrested by the operatives of the command while on a  patrol of the border town last Friday.

He said the suspects were illegal immigrants who were allegedly into nefarious activities, as a locally-made pistol, charms, fake identity cards, and particulars of two motorcycles among others, were recovered from them.

He said given this discovery, the command has got approval from the Comptroller of Immigration, to carry out constant raids on communities around the border areas and towns in the state, to arrest illegal immigrants.

“In the light of insecurity in the country, the Ogun State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has step up its operation.

“Our operatives were on patrol in Aiyetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, and they arrested three illegal immigrants from the Republic of Benin.

“It was obvious that they were into nefarious activities because our operatives recovered them a locally-made pistol, assorted charms, particulars of motorcycles, and fake identity cards among others.” The NIS Controller stated.

Bayeroju, however, warned illegal immigrants in the state to leave the country, as the operatives of the command would continue to raid and arrest any illegal immigrants.

He said the three suspects would bé handed to the police for prosecution.

One of the suspects, Muheedeen Dikou, said the locally-made pistol belonged to his father, whom he claimed was a member of a vigilance group adding “the gun has no licence.”
