A member of the Board of Trustees of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Chief Sam Nkire has described re-elected President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mrs Funke Egbemode as a trailblazer in Nigerian journalism.
A journalist himself, Nkire said Mrs Egbemode, who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive of New Telegraph newspapers, has brought “professional and management skills to journalism in the short period she served as president before her recent re-election.
Chief Nkire, who is also a board member of the Telegraph group of newspapers added that Mrs Egbemode’s proficient tenure at both the Telegraph and the Guild had actually “proved that what a man can do a woman can do even better”.
He urged the “new” president of the NGE not to rest on her oars, especially in the areas of discipline and professional ethics, in order to guide the Nigerian reader to the path of change. Chief Nkire, leader of the Abia State caucus of the APC, thanked NGE  for finding Mrs. Egbemode worthy of leading the pack of excellent and experienced journalism practitioners in Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria.
