A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire has welcomed the decision by the Department of State Services (DSS) to release the seven judges accused of corrupt practices.
Nkire said the release of the judges demonstrated that the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC government that appointed the head of the DSS had great respect for the rule of law.
The APC stalwart added that the development would go a long way to clear the doubts of every doubting Thomas that what was on trial was actually “corruption and not the judiciary”.
Nkire, however, said the senior judges deserved to be treated with decency like all other Nigerians, adding that detaining them longer would have been questionable and high handed.
He said the APC considered judges and the judiciary as very important partners in the war against corruption and, therefore, would, at all times, uphold the esteemed images and dignity of the judicial arm of government.
On accusations of corrupt practices levelled against the judges, Nkire said: “Since nobody is above the law, the judges should be investigated and tried, following all due processes of law.”
