NLC strike: Banks, schools, post office close for business in Kebbi

Commercial Banks, public schools including general post office in Kebbi State were closed against numerous customers following the commencement of nationwide strike embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other Labour Unions workers.

Daily Sun observed that all the commercial banks earlier, on Thursday, open their premises for transactions but hurriedly locked their gates at about 9am.

Similar, the General Post Office, Birnin- Kebbi, was also under locks while students of public schools were sent back home in compliance with the directive of labour unions.

A staff of a new generation bank in Birnin- Kebbi, who spoke to Daily Sun, on phone said, “Many banks open for the day business but, a circular was sent to us to immediately closed our activities until further notice”.

A teacher in one of the public schools in Birnin-Kebbi, Mrs. Rachael Ngozi, told Daily Sun that they had to send back pupils after the Nigeria Union of Teacher (NUT) had given them orders to go back home.

However, it was observed that only private schools, traders at various markets and transport’s unions that went about their normal activities without any obstruction.
