ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),Tai Solarin University of Edu­cation (TASUED) branch, Ijagun, Ogun State has raised the alarm over non-release of 15 months sub­vention to the institution, saying the situation is crip­pling the university’s opera­tions.

Addressing newsmen at ASUU TASUED secretari­at, chairman of the union, Dr. Bayo Adesanya, who expressed worry over the trend, served Governor Ibi­kunle Amosun notice to pay the over N2 billion subven­tion owed the institution, warning that failure to do so could disrupt the peace on campus. Adesanya said series of meetings with Governor Amosun and top government officials yield­ed no result.

He said the state govern­ment used to give 70 per­cent subvention while the university, through its In­ternally Generated Revenue (IGR) augmented it with 30 percent to pay workers sal­ary, stressing that in the last 15 months, the university administration had picked the wage bills. The ASUU TASUED boss lamented that the government’s ab­dication of its responsibility to the institution has taken a toll on every facet of the university system, adding, “all efforts made for govern­ment to release the subven­tion to TASUED in the past 15 months have not been positive.’’

Adesanya, who put the current wage bill of the university at N175 million, said by the government’s subvention policy of pay­ing 70 percent, the Amosun administration owed TA­SUED about N2 billion for 15 months.
