Two members of a notorious armed robbery gang, who have been terrorising residents of Lekki area of Lagos State, have met their Waterloo shortly after robbing two residents.

The suspects, Ayomide and David, were arrested by a team of detectives led by the divisional police officer of Maroko Police Station, CSP Isah Abdulmajid.

The team had embarked on crime prevention patrol along Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge at about 9pm on Saturday and, in the course of their duty, they came in contact with two young women, Gbemi and Hannah, who appeared to be in panic.

Upon questioning, the duo explained to the team that they had just been dispossessed of their phones by the suspects at gunpoint.

They pointed in the direction in which the bandits escaped on a motorcycle and the police gave them a hot chase.

The Lagos State police public relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said: “The team tracked down the suspects and subjected them to search and a gun, a cutlass and the stolen  phones were found on them. The items were recovered and the criminals taken into custody.

He said, “In their confessional statements, they owned up to belonging to a robbery syndicate terrorising Lekki and its environs. Commending the police team for a swift response to the crime and the eventual arrest of the perpetrators, the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, has directed that the case be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command for further investigation.”
