The last thing Akwa United will do is to be complacent when she files out against Kwara United today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, so says the Technical Adviser of the team Abdul Maikaba.

Akwa United won their third match of the season in midweek beating Niger Tornadoes 1-2 away from home while Kwara United recorded their first win of the season over Wikki Tourists also on Wednesday.

Coach Maikaba has hinted that the victory in Lokoja will not make his players complacent but maintained that it will only motivate them to target more away victories in their remaining matches.

“The victory in Lokoja was a very good one for us. That result has really encouraged us and we want to continue winning our matches be it at home or away.

“ All our concentration is on this weekend’s match against Kwara United. Although they are having a difficult start to the season, we know that they are a good team so we won’t make that mistake of underrating them or any other team in this league”.

“ We won’t allow that victory  against Niger Tornadoes to get into our head in such a way that it will distract us, instead, we want to be more focussed in every match, knowing that we can always win if we play well.

“ We know the importance of every match, so we are determined to ensure we get positive results in all our matches this season so we can meet our target of doing better than last season”, Maikaba said.

The Promise Keepers and Plateau United are joint top of the league with 9 points from 4 matches and Akwa will be aiming to extend their unbeaten home run to 22 matches if they avoid defeat today.

Akwa United and Kwara United last met in the league in 2013 with the Promise Keepers winning in Uyo before forcing the Ilorin based club to 1-1 draw which saw them being relegated from the top flight.
