Referees hoping to officiate in the 2016/ 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season, will earn just N80,000 per match.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Referees consultant, Linus Mba, disclosed that the said amount is inclusive of indemnities, and transportations.
The FIFA Technical Adviser on Refereeing, stated that referees in the lower cadre, will earn far lower the above said amount for their efforts.
He further revealed that younger and teachable Referees would be introduced this new league season, assuring that unlike in the past, the arbiters will get more matches to officiate this coming season, as a measure to build trust and experience.
A total of 50 referees and 130 assistant referees has passed the screening exercise to officiate the 2016/2017 NPFL season.
About 250 candidates participated in the screening process which was initiated following the low performance of match officials .
No Nigerian match official was recognised in the CAF Awards shortlist for Referees on the continent.
