About 13 teenage rival cult groups known as ‘assists’ and ‘touch and see’ operating within the vicinity of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, have been arrested by the Nasarawa State command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The teenage cultists were arrested following a tip-off by people living within the Polytechnic area and officers of the Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Scheme.

Parading the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters in Lafia, the state commandant Mohammed Gidado, said that the suspects are not students of the polytechnic.

He added that two other members of another cult groups which have been terrorising the area known as ‘touch and see’ were also arrested.

According to him, “between December 28 2017 and 1st January 2018, we have arrested 26 criminals, ranging from cultists, theft and rape, 11 suspected cultists from a group known as Assists, another two cultists from a different group known as touch and see, seven suspects of theft, one suspected case of defilement, one case of criminal breach of trust, and four cases of assault,” he said.

He also said that the cultists would be charged to juvenile courts while others would be charged to the common court for onward prosecution.
