Delta State government has approved the construction of 240-bed space each for male and female athletes for the National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in November this year.

The approval was one of the outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting which was held on Tuesday in Asaba and presided over by the deputy governor, Kingsley Otuaro.

Briefing journalists, Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu said the 480-bed space accommodation would be constructed at the Dennis Osadebey University in Anwai, near Asaba.

Aniagwu said the state government decided to construct the hostels for the athletes at the university as a permanent structure for the institution for the benefits of students after the sporting fiesta.

He added that the council also approved the construction of an indoor sports complex at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba to accommodate short range games.

“For the Sports Festival which we are hosting in November, the council approved the construction of 240-bed space for male athletes and another 240-bed space for female athletes.

“The hostels would be constructed at the Dennis Osadebey University so that after the games, it will still be useful for the students of the institution.

“We also approved the construction of an indoor sports complex at the Stephen Keshi Stadium for short range games,” he added.
