The Northern leg of the NUGA 3X3 Basketball Tour powered by the AMK Foundation has produced Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria and Bayero University Kano as champions in the male and female categories respectively.
The event which attracted over 15 universities to the outdoor courts of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria witnessed lots of excitement as spectators stayed late nights to witness every action.
Ahmadu Bello University men’s team was followed by Nasarawa State University, Kaduna State University, Kano University of Science & Technology and University of Ilorin while in the women’s category Bayero University Kano is followed by University of Ilorin and Ahmadu Bello University.
All eight teams alongside two other female teams to be decided by the Nigeria Universities Games Association, NUGA, will head for Abuja this weekend for the national finals billed for the Old Parade Ground, Abuja on 5th and 5th March, 2017.
The northern universities will battle for honours against the Southern universities represented by University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Benson Idahosa University and Enugu State University of Science and Technology while for the women’s category they will do battle against University of Ibadan girls, UNILAG, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka alongside UNIZIK and ESUT to compete for honours in the national finals slated for March 4th and 5th, 2017, in Abuja.
According to the chairman, NUGA Basketball Prof. Adamu Ahmed, the change in date was to allow all schools arrive on time for the event.
