National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has vowed not to return to work until their demands are met by the Federal Government.
Speaking to newsmen after a stakeholders meeting of the association in Abuja, yesterday, its President, Adbrafiu Alani Adeniji said government has failed to implement an agreement it signed with nurses in December 2016.
Adeniji said members are fully participating in the one-week warning strike under the umbrella of Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Health Care Professionals, (JOHESU), called last Wednesday. He threatened that nurses will commence nationwide industrial action on the expiration of the JOHESU warning strike, should overnment fail to meet their demands by the end of today.
“All nurses and midwives in all federal health Institutions are hereby directed to join JOHESU on an indefinite strike from midnight of Wednesday, September 20, 2017,” said Adeniji.
The leadership of NANNM states expressly that it is in agreement with all JOHESU’s positions on the recent seven-day ultimatum given to the Federal government to accede to all its lingering demands dated back to 2012.
“It should be noted that the continuous peace and harmony in the health sector can no longer be guaranteed if the Federal Government fails to abide by the various agreements reached since 2012 for the betterment of nursing profession and the health sector in general.
“Therefore, all Nurses and Midwives in all Federal health Institutions are hereby directed to join other JOHESU members to proceed on an indefinite strike action from midnight of Wednesday, 20th of September 2017”, Adeniji said.
