A nursing mother and six other passengers including the driver of a commercial bus heading to Owerri from Onitsha have been killed in an auto crash at Onitsha/Owerri road, precisely at Njaba hill , Imo State late Thursday.

An eyewitness told Saturday Sun that a Mercedez benz lorry on high speed rammed into the bus conveying 16 passengers, the impact according to the source forced the vehicle to summersault several times, killing seven passengers and injuring 10 others.

The source who claimed to know the nursing mother from Umuogwuta, Ndegwu in Owerri west council area of the state disclosed that the woman who was a petty trader had gone to Onitsha market before she met her untimely death.

When contacted, the State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander, Joseph Aremu confirmed the incident but added that while their preliminary investigation had indicted the lorry driver, further investigation was still on going to ascertain the actual cause of the accident. Aremu said the dead victims were immediately taken to the mortuary and the survivors victims to the hospital by his men from the Njaba unit.
