From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

The Federal Government has announced that it will shut down any National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp that fails to comply with COVID-19 control protocols.

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, disclosed this at the Presidential Task Force national briefing on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja.

‘It has become necessary that all safety protocols be adhered to,’ the minister said, adding that ‘any orientation camp that is not obeying the protocol will simply be closed as the NYSC cannot afford to risk the lives and health of the Corps members.’

The minister indicated that Corps members who will be affected in the event of camps being shut for violating COVID-19 control protocols would be reposted to adjoining states.

The news comes against the backdrop of 731 members of Batch B Corps members testing positive for COVID-19.

The PTF had conducted the testing of Batch B Corps members using RDTs, where of the 35,419 in the Batch, 731 tested positive compared to 108 recorded in Batch A.

Of the current stream of Corps members, 765 members were confirmed positive out of over 22,000 tested.
