Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Fadah, has reiterated the corps’ commitment to safety of all corps members nationwide.
Fadah gave the commitment in a statement issued by the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr Eddy Megwa, on Sunday in Abuja.
The statement quoted Fadah stating this while addressing corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Katsina State.
He said that adequate security measures had been put in place toward ensuring the protection of corps members during orientation, at their lodges and in other NYSC formations.
The director-general, however, appealed to the corps members not to endanger their personal safety, but be security conscious at all times.
“We have put everything in place to ensure the safety of all corps members nationwide. We are still working round the clock to ensure that you are more secured during and after the orientation periods.
“Please, avoid night movements and other dangerous expeditions,” he said.
Fadah also urged the corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the scheme and acquire vocational skills that would make them self-employed.
He added that the era of paid jobs was gradually fading away, while self-employment remained the only antidote to financial independence.
The NYSC Coordinator in Borno, Mr Nura Umar, said that the 802 corps members registered in the camp comprised 410 males and 392 females.
He also said that they had been participating in all camp activities, in line with NYSC directives. (NAN)
