A total of 517 corps members deployed to Delta State for their mandatory national service have been moved to Anambra State for their orientation course.
This was disclosed by the Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra, Mrs Ekene Iruma, during the official swearing in ceremony of 1,640 corps members deployed to the state, held at NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
Iruka, who explained that the corps members belonged to the 2022 Batch C Stream II Orientation Course, said that the Delta group were moved to Anambra because of the National Sports Festival going on in Asaba which squeezed the space at the Delta State NYSC Orientation Camp.
She said that after the course, the 517 corps members would be sent back to Delta to continue their one year mandatory service.
She noted out of the 1,640 corps members for the orientation course, Anambra has a total of 1,123 corps members deployed to the state out of which 471 were males while 652 were females. Delta has 157 males and 360 females.
Speaking further in her address, Mrs Iruma, implored the corps members to sustain a high level of discipline and enthusiasm in their service to their fatherland.
“I urge you to adapt quickly to the regimented structure of this orientation course, learn new things, unlearn a few others, make new friends and utilize the opportunity to contribute your quota to the development of Nigeria, Anambra State, particularly, in the Education Sector.
“The NYSC will also continue to support the Government of Anambra State in ensuring man power development, healthcare delivery to the rural communities where they are needed and agricultural extension work to boost food production.
She advised them to also pursue acts that would promote national unity and development.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, security agencies, corps employers, the media and other stakeholders for their support in the areas of security and the welfare of corps members.
Meanwhile, the oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, who was represented by Hon. Justice Emeka Ezedi.
