Tennis players and fans in Nigeria can expect more glitz and gklamour as His Royal Majesty, Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, the Elegushi of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom  has promised to make the 10th edition of the annual tennis a historic experience for participants.

The first class Oba in Lagos made this known while speaking to the media at the finals of the 8th edition of the annual Oba  Elegushi Tennis Championship held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club (LLTC) Onikan.

He said that the championship was designed to accommodate aspiring talents and thereby giving them platform to showcase their skills with handsome rewards.

“My plan is to take the tournament to greater heights. We will ensure we have a bigger competition at the 10th edition and include the younger generation because tennis is played across all ages and we must improve on what we have done this year,”  Elegushi said.

“Our vision is to create a platform for young tennis players to gain experience in the game,” he added.

Meanwhile, Team Absolute emerged champions of the 8th edition of the Elegushi Tennis Championship  defeating Team Ebony 2-1 to lift the trophy.

Lagos Lawn Tennis Captain and former ex-international Henry Shedrack described the tournament as the best so far in the history of the tournament.

According to Shedrack, this years’s edition had a twist away from the usual expectations as the events was organised in a team format with over 30 players in two teams (Ebony and Absolute) jostling for honors.

The well-attended event was witnessed by other Obas, political, businesses and community leaders which included; the Onisabe of Igbobi HRMOba Owolabi Adeyemi Adeniyi, HRM Oba Oba Muslim the Ogudu Osahdu of Ogombo Land,Hon Noheem Adams, Aare Akin Bolrinwa amongst others.
