Obaseki rewards 33 Edo traffic officers for dedication to duty

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has rewarded 33 outstanding officers of the State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA) with automatic promotion and cash award of N250, 000 each.

Speaking at the award ceremony which held at the Government House in Benin on Thursday, Obaseki commended the officers for their commitment, dedication and diligence in the discharge of their duties.

He said that his administration and the people of the state were proud and happy with the professional conduct of the new EDSTMA.

“Today, we are rewarding those of you that have been outstanding in their duties. I am instructing that all of you should be promoted to the next rank and step to serve as motivation to stimulate productivity.

“You have won the heart of the people through your new approach to traffic management; despite provocations you have displayed unquestionable character.

He noted that the selection process for the awardees were transparent as both the management and the people of the state recommended the officials through various reports which were followed and investigated.

He said that 250 more EDSTMA officials would be recruited before the end of the year to ease some of the challenges being faced by the Agency.

The governor added that he has received report and proposal to fix traffic lights across the Benin metropolis and also install CCTV cameras to help apprehend violators.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Agency, Mr Dennis Oloriegbe thanked the governor for the opportunity given to the Agency to serve the people of the state.

Oloriegbe said that recommendations from members of the public and the media were used to select the 33 officials for the award.

Responding on behalf of the awardees, Mr Osagie Emokpae thanked EDSTMA management and Gov. Obaseki for the opportunity given them to contribute their quota in the area of traffic management in the state.

Emokpae pledged their commitment and dedication to work saying “this is a motivating factor for us and we will continue to do our best as our best is yet to come,”.
