Barely 48 hours after the Accord Party’s (AP) Chairman in Ogun State, Isiaka Amusa, announced the party’s endorsement of the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gboyega Isiaka, a faction of the party, yesterday, distanced itself from the purported adoption of Isiaka.

Briefing newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, AP Publicity Secretary, Michael Adesanya, said the state chairman and his ‘co-travellers’ in the party were on their own and declared that Tope Tokoya remained the party’s governorship candidate, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Flanked at the press briefing by other members of the state working committee of the party, including the Vice Chairman, Wale Adebisi, Organising Secretary, Dele Oyetoro and the Treasurer, Samuel Olaleye, Adesanya claimed that 15 out of 20 local government chairmen of Accord Party, have decided to support and work for the success of Tokoya, as their candidate. He added that the endorsement of the ADC governorship candidate by some leaders of the party was just an exercise in futility.

“We are in possession of various documents that confirm the anti-party activities of a five-man group, led by Amusa, whose candidate lost out in the primary of our party.”
