Rangers International of Enugu came to a sad end of their campaign in the Total/CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage, following a 1-0 defeat to Club Sportif Sfaxien at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Despite Rangers efforts to claim victory over the visitors, Sfaxien remained resolute and kept the hosts at bay.
Rangers did came close to scoring on three occasions, beating goalkeeper Sabri Ben Hassen, who frustrated the home team’s efforts at goal.
It took Sfaxien 73 minutes to put Rangers out permanently with a goal from Nassim Hnid’s free kick that beat goalkeeper Nana Bonso.
Coach Gbenga Ogunbunte, while speaking at a post match conference blamed the weather for Rangers performance.
“It’s unfortunate that we lost, but we want to take the positives from the game. The weather was not favourable to us, thus making it difficult for my players. The boys did their best, but unfortunately, we didn’t get the goals despite our efforts.
“We played and came close to scoring on three occasions, but the ball didn’t just get the into the net. In football, things like this happen and we hope and look forward to getting a chance to return to the continent and do better.”
