The Igbo Socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, on Wednesday, declared that the Anambra North Senatorial zone presently occupying the governorship seat should be allowed to retain the position for another four years.

The gubernatorial election in the state is scheduled for November 18 2017.

President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Damian Okeke, in a crowded press briefing, in Awka, said the body reached a decision to adopt a zoning formula for critical elective and appointive political offices henceforth in the state after painstaking consultations with critical stakeholders.

The press conference was attended by traditional rulers, town union presidents and other executives of Ohaneze in the state.

Okeke said the decision taken on zoning in Anambra politics was the only way to enthrone a stable polity, reduce rancor, mutual suspicion and also reduce cost of campaigns for elective political offices so as to enjoy good governance.

The Ohaneze boss said that the recommendation, after varied consultations, agreed that the governorship seat should be occupied on rotational zonal basis while every zone occupying the seat should be allowed to retain it for eight years consecutive period before it should rotate to the next senatorial zone.
