Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged journalists to be fair and just in reporting events and activities in the society.
The governor is particularly worried about practitioners in the new media who he noted, have penchant for negative reporting capable of heating up the polity.
Okowa expressed his concerns in Asaba yesterday when he hosted the newly inaugurated executive of the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by the Chairman, Mr. Mike Ikeogwu. He urged journalists to always cross check reports before going to press to avoid anarchy and chaos in the society.
“NUJ should guide their members to be fair and just, and reflect the discipline expected of them. It is better to cross check facts you post especially on social media. We need to cross check facts before posting.  It is my hope that NUJ in Delta will guide its members in the course of duty to be fair to everyone and just in their reporting.
“You must find ways of talking with your members and those of them that put the government in bad light by reporting negative issues,” he said.
