The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of over 75 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cult members and murderers. It also disclosed the recovery of many stolen vehicles, arms and ammunition from various criminal hideouts.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olugbenga Adeyanju, explained that the command operatives raided some black spots where criminals had been terrorizing the people and made the arrests and the recovery:
“When I came on board, I warned criminals to relocate. That the men of the Special-Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) and Anti-Cultism Squad (ACS) would go after them. From that moment we started giving them baptismal of fire one after the other.”
He said the SARS commander, Emenike Vendy, led his operatives arrested One Seun and two others, recovering a cut-to-size barrel: “They were planning to rob innocent citizens at Osi town and other neighbouring communities. We also recovered some arms and ammunition from them.
“SARS operatives arrested four other suspects including Adeniyi, Oluwatosin, Adebowale, Ilo and Tunde. They put on different fake uniforms and unlawfully broke into residences forcing occupants to lie down. They collected a pair of shoes valued at N45, 000.00, one Techno Android phone valued at N55, 000.00, one Infinix note valued N30, 000.00, a Laptop computer valued N150, 000.00. The suspects confessed and items recovered included one military camourflag, Navy blue uniform, military face cap and Merchant Navy identity card.”
He said in Igoba and Oba-Ile axis, eight suspected cult members were arrested including; Ajewole (AVE), Olumeso (AVE), Suleiman (EIYE), Afolabi (AVE), Busayo (EIYE), Oloidi (EIYE), Iwaeni (EIYE) and Coker (EIYE).
Also arrested was one Olatunde, a suspected robber and cultist who escaped from custody in whose possession was found one locally made revolver pistol, one cut-to-size barrel gun and two catridges:
“Police detectives swooped on some miscreants who specialized in planting and selling of Indian hemp in Amurin Camp via Owo. We arrested two suspects Ifeanyi and Lucky with 12 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
“One Vctoria, 70, was kidnapped on her way to church in Igbotako. Immediately the AKS swung into action and arrested Idowu and Waheed in connection with the offence. The phone used to demand for ransom was recovered while the victim was rescued from their hideout.
“SARS operatives on November 4, 2017, arrested eight suspected armed robbers. They entered into the premises of a gas plant at Ogedengbe Estate, off Oda Road, Akure, through a fence and tied the security man.
“They broke into the offices, stole N500, 000 and removed a Malkano. Two of the suspects Ikechukwu and Tokunbo were arrested and the Malkano was recovered in Asaba, Delta State, while the suspect remained in prison.
“The command has mapped out strategies to ensure Ondo State is crime free. We have warned the criminal to relocate we will continue to go after them to show them that the state is not a hiding place for criminals.
“All the suspects will soon be charged to court.”
