One year after the abduction Leah Sharibu, her distraught mother, Rebecca Sharibu, has spoken with a heart filled with pain and emotion, urging the release of her daughter.

All that matters to her is let Leah be freed and brought home. She is distraught that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed her.

Listen to her: “They sent three ministers to my house promising that my daughter would be released; now it is a year and my daughter is not home yet.

“Since she left, my family and I have been devastated; my heart is full of sorrow.”

Today marks 365 days since about 109 girls were abducted from a girls’ secondary school at Dapchi, Yobe State by the Boko Haram, highlighting another failure on the part of the Nigerian government to protect the girl child from the onslaught of insurgents operating in northeastern part of the country.

After the release of 105 of the girls, Leah was held back because she refused to succumb to Boko Haram’s forceful conversion to Islam.

Today, a local Christian congregation, ECWA Bishara No1 Demsawo, where parents of Leah worship, organised a prayer meeting for the release of the girl and to remind the Buhari-led government to keep to its promise of releasing Leah and others still in captivity.

Fidelis Saul, the Senior Pastor of ECWA Church, Yola said: “Buhari’s government must display impartiality because they successfully secured the release of other girls but refused to secure Leah’s because of her faith.

“We organised this prayer meeting to ask for God’s protection and deliverance for Leah because we believe God can save her from the hands of the wicked.”
