Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu and former deputy Senate president, Ibrahim Mantu, were among prominent dignitaries who graced the one year memorial anniversary of Chief Ojo Maduekwe in Abuja.

Maduekwe, a former Minister of Culture and Tourism (1999-2000); Transportation (2000-2003); Foreign Affairs (2007-2010); and a former High Commissioner to Canada (2012-2015), passed away on June 29, 2016.

Speaking during the memorial Church service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, First Abuja Parish, Wuse 2, Abuja, Onyeama said Maduekwe was a great Nigerian icon. Onyeama also said Maduekwe was somebody who held all the highest offices in the country, adding that he was a great public servant. In his remarks, Governor Okezie, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Oko Chukwu, said Maduekwe’s demise was an extremely rude shock to the entire Abia State.
