Former Kaduna United striker now based in China, Onunwa David Maurice has offered his services to feature for Nigeria.

And the goal poacher currently in the second tier league with Dongguan Hengyun says his decision is borne out of the love for Nigeria and is looking the way of the national U23 team coached Imama Amakapabo or even the senior national team, the Super Eagles under Coach Gernot Rohr.

Though, the U23 team is due to kick start preparations for the qualifiers, Onunwa is insistent he can add value to the team.

Onunwa fondly called ‘Aboy’ when he was in Nigeria says it has always been his dream to star for his country and believes the U23 team would be a good starting point. “I played for 36 Lions, Kaduna United and I also went for trails at Heartland before heading out to China. But with the experience I have gained, I think I have something to offer my country Nigeria if given the opportunity with the Flying Eagles.

Dongguan Time Network News had glowing remarks for the striker. “Nigeria’s foreign aid David scored to lead the shooter list with 15 goals. Since joining Dongguan Hengyun more than a month ago, David has been in power on all sides and can score 2 goals per game.”

Dongguan Hengyun coach Wang Zhongfan on the other hand says: “David has a good sense of smell in front of his door (goal) and a lot of potential.”

While appreciating the talent base of Nigeria in the field of football, Onunwa who is also looking to take his football to Europe is confident that a call up by Nigeria would give him an opportunity to prove his mettle. “Europe is full of action and I hope to take my football there. It also puts one on the spotlight and criticisms.”
