A Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), on June 9, conferred on the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the distinguished holder of the group’s honorary award.

The former governor received the prestigious award alongside 20 other eminent Nigerians.

A letter conveying the message to Dr. Kalu, dated June 8, and signed by the National Coordinator of OPC, Aare Gani Adams stated that the award is in recognition of his consistent support and courage in the course of the June 12 struggle since 2000, when the annual June 12 annulled election and commemoration programme started.

“There is no better way to appreciate your steadfastness towards the ideals of the group other than to write your name in gold for identifying with the core values of democracy and good governance. Once again, we say congratulations on this new honour and award,” Adams said in the letter.
