Top-of-the-class, elegant and aging gracefully is Mrs Opral Benson. The Yeye Oge of Lagos is one woman who has defined herself over the years through sheer dint of hard work and a tenacity of purpose and her antecedents speak for her.

Last week Sunday, during the 12th edition of Man of The Year Awards, organised by Silverbiurd Group, graceful Benson had proved that age could not stop her. Clad in green dress with floral designs and colourful beads, Benson had ascended the stage to receive her Lifetime Achievement Award like the queen she truly is accompanied by her close associates. As Mama Bakassi, Senator Florence Ita Giwa presented her the award. Benson glowed with smiles of a woman who has paid her dues and who knows her onions.

Making her acceptance speech, she went down memory lane, recalling how she came to Nigeria and ended by saying ‘Liberians say I am too Nigerian and Nigerians say I am too Liberian. However, Ita Giwa did not mention my age so I will not bother to mention it.’

The entire hall erupted with laughter. However, who would have bothered to ask, anyway?
