The contractor handling the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road, Peculiar Consult and Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd, Engr Lanre Adeleke, on Tuesday disclosed that the roads will be ready in the next 18 months.
Speaking with journalists when the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbduRosheed Akanbi, led 15 other monarchs to the site, the contractor assured that driving from Osogbo to Ibadan will not take more than 48 minutes when the road is completed.
He explained that driving from Osogbo to Iwo will take 23 minutes while Iwo to Ibadan will not be more than 25 minutes drive.
He enjoined the community and road users to bare with the contractor and give them the necessary support that will encourage them to fast-track work on the road.
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Akanbi, expressed joy over the decision of the Osun and Oyo governments to attend to the suffering of the people of the area.
He said, “I am happy that the economy and relationship between Oyo and Osun State will be further cemented through the development of inner growth, especially road.
“When there is no road it means no development. This road has been a problem for us and today we thank the governors of the two states, Adegboyega Oyetola and Seyi Makinde for putting politics aside and listening to the masses and the kings to reconstruct the road.
“We commend the contractor, Lanre Adeleke for the ongoing job on it, it will boost the economy. The road will take us away from isolation. Reconstruction of this road has broken the jinx that has bedevilled our communities for a long. This is a breakthrough since the 1970s when they did the road. We are happy that our people will not suffer again,” Oluwo added.
