Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), yesterday, disclosed its readiness to conduct local government election.
A statement by its chairman, Otunba Segun Oladitan, said the commission would meet all registered political parties, today to discuss the LGA poll.
He said the essence of the meeting was to rob minds together with the political parties ahead of the election.
“The meeting which is slated to hold at the conference hall of the commission along old Ikirun Road is expected to have all the political parties adequately represented,” he said.
OSIEC reaffirms its commitment to conducting a local council election that would be acceptable to all.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had urged Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and religious leaders in the state to prevail on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, to shelve plans to conduct the LGA elections.
A statement by the chairman of the Osun PDP Media Management Committee, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said the LGA poll, which would reverse the extension by six months granted the current caretaker committees managing affairs of council areas in the state just about one month ago was a bobby trap for the incoming PDP administration.
