Clement Adeyi, Osogbo

Osogbo, the Osun State capital, is currently agog as opposition party PDP stages a rally to draw support ahead of the governorship election billed for September 22.

Party members from different parts of the state are trooping to the state capital, with the party’s flags and diverse campaign inscriptions and songs.

One of the aspirants, Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi, has allayed fears of rumoured violence during the rally.

He said the rally would be peaceful and successful.

He expressed optimism that he would win the election through the party which he assured had the capacity to obtain victory during the poll.

Presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar’s team has also hit Osogbo in large numbers singing his praise and chanting the party’s victory in both the presidential and governorship elections.

There is tight security as Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) laden with men and officers of the Nigerian Police, who have mounted surveillance in strategic places, are moving round the town to ensure security and maintenance of law and order.

The Freedom Park venue of the rally is already filled up with with thousands of the party supporters and leaders.

The national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, presidential aspirant, Sule Lamido, Atiku Abubakar among other party big wigs, are being expected at the venue.
