From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

Controversy has continued to trail the killing of Olalekan Kafayat and Abideen Kafayat as families of the deceased insisted that police officers led by CSP Adekunle Omoyele.

A younger sister of the deceased, Olalekan Rukayat, who spoke to newsmen in Osogbo, yesterday, alleged that the minority of the Osun State House of Assembly, Babajide Kofoworola, led Omoyele’s team to kill her relatives.

But, the legislator described the allegation against him as a lie, saying the police killed Abideen and the killer of Kafayat was not known.

He said, “I was in Osogbo when I heard that someone was killed in Ede. Before I got there, they have set the house I built for my father on fire and I have not seen my father till now.

“Abideen Olalekan was killed by the police tactical team. I was at the police station when they brought the child of Kafayat and we saw blood on her clothes,” the legislator added.

However, the spokesperson of the police in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the surveillance tactical team was disbanded because of the allegation against the police.

She said, “we are still on the matter. We have been able to arrest some people. As soon as the investigation is completed, we are going to disclose how far we have gone about it.

“I am not aware of the claim that the police took the body of the deceased away.

“We have been able to invite those that are concerned, that’s why I said we are still on the investigation. We cannot be telling people what we have not concluded,” she added.

On the reason for the disbandment of the tactical team, Opalola said, “there was an allegation against the police that the police were involved. To have our investigation completed, that is why CP Olawale Olokode disbanded the team to know whether they are guilty or not. Either to re-organise the team or disband it permanently.”

Meanwhile, the suspected police, CSP Omoyele, has been appointed as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke.
