The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oseloka  Obaze, has said he would prioritise education in the state because students deserved good amenities.

Obaze made this remark during a visit to Akpu, Orumba South Local Government where he elected to use the convenience of a nearby primary school and observed that though the toilets were clean and sanitized, they could be greatly improved to meet modern standards.

Beyond amenities, Obaze said that teacher training and retraining, access to computer and Internet facilities, teaching and learning aids, appropriately sized classrooms, and furnished laboratories were essential to learning. He pledged that his government will prioritise education and ensure that children were properly equipped to excel in a highly competitive global marketplace.

Earlier, Obaze said his government, if elected, will commit 26 percent of the state’s budget to education and 10 percent of the state’s education budget will be dedicated to private schools and schools run by missions.
