Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has ordered the re-opening of the three tertiary institutions shut on March 18, in the wake of the violent protests in Ilesa.

The re-opened institutions include Osun State College of Education, Ilesa;  School of Health Technology, Ilesa, and the Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke.

The schools are to re-open immediately to continue with their normal academic activities.

The protest, which was embarked upon by the youths of the town, was an aftermath of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s (IBEDC) recent disconnection of electricity in the entire Ijesa land, which threw all the communities into darkness for about one week.

The power disconnection was a reprisal over an attack on IBEDC’s staff by suspected hoodlums.

According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Adeniyi Adesina, the decision to re-open the institutions was taken after due consultations with stakeholders, including heads of the affected institutions, parents and the leadership of IBEDC.

The parties agreed that peace should continue to reign and that the students would, henceforth, behave in line with the Omoluabi ethos which the state is noted for.

Daily Sun gathered that IBEDC had restored the power to parts of Ijesaland, and it would soon get to all the communities.
