Oyo State Police Command arrested over 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and recovered stolen cars as well as 15 illegal arms and ammunition. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, told Daily Sun that the hoodlums were arrested in their hideouts:
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives arrested four notorious armed robbery suspects responsible for snatching exotic cars in Lagos, Ogun as well as other parts of the country. The suspects are, Afolabi, Adewunmi, Adeoye and Olaseni.
“Another five suspected armed robbers were arrested. They were terrorizing residents of Ogbere, Amuloko and other parts of the Ibadan metropolis. They were nabbed while they were robbing their victims at gunpoint. The mobile phone of one of the suspects was recovered and arrested by the Ogbere Police Division. The suspects are, Bawa, Bashiru, Bukayat, Folashade and Jelili. Two locally made pistols and cartridges were recovered from them.
“A group of armed robbery suspects invaded Lam Adesina Estate, Ajoda New Town, New Ife Road, Ibadan, and robbed a female resident of her valuables. Items carted away, included mobile phones, jewelry and cash.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS), arrested eight suspects at their various criminal hideouts in Ibadan. They confessed to have come from different locations in Minna, Niger State and Kaduna State. The suspects are, Adetunji, Oluwaseun, Komolafe, Lawal, Mohammed, Adamu, Abidoye and Omote. They recovered a Toyota Camry 2007 Reg. No. KJA 697 BC, one unregistered Nissan Almera, one unregistered Toyota Corolla, one Dell laptop, one HP laptop, an LG laptop, three wristwatches and one Samsung phone.
“Two suspected armed robbers were arrested by police detectives in the state Criminals Investigation Department (CID). They were involved in some serial burglary operations in Abese Zone Elebo area of Ibadan. The suspects who were domiciled in Abeokuta, Ogun State, usually broke into houses on Sunday while victims were in church. The two suspects are Hammed and Romoke who resided in Agboin’s Compound Itoko, Abeokuta. They recovered two flat screens TV from them.
“Another four suspects caught by arm of the law whose stock to trade was to vandalise vehicles at Fodacis, Ring Road, Ibadan, stealing motor batteries, brain boxes and other valuable motor parts. The suspects are, Afeez, Kazeem, Akeem and Musa.
“One Kudjo was arrested in his hideout in Ibadan by SARS operatives during operation at an apartment in Ikolaba, Ibadan, where he stole $59,000.00 and N3.4million. The suspect perfected sinister plans to abscond abroad with the loot. He was nabbed before he escaped to the United States of America, having procured visa and other travel documents.
“He confessed to have built an edifice in his home country, Benin Republic, with part of the ill-gotten money. Part of the stolen money and other exhibits were, however, recovered from him. He will soon appear in court.”
