The three weightlifting athletes from Oyo State that represented Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom and won Gold, Silver and bronze medals respectively would be honoured.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, Gbenga Adewusi dropped this hint in Ibadan at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan, Oyo State recently.

According to the Chairman, Folasade Rafiat Lawal gave Nigeria a second medal at the Commonwealth Games and besides winning the gold medal she also set a new Commonwealth Games record of 206 kg in the women’s 59kg weightlifting event. She was the second Nigeria female lifter to smash the Games record after Adijat Olarinoye produced a strong lift in the women’s 55kg.

Another athlete, Taiwo Liadi bagged silver in the event. She added to Nigeria’s medal haul after a total lift of 216 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk category while the third weightlifting athlete, Osijo Taiwo also won Bronze Medal with a total of 225kg in the 87kg class.
