Security Assistance/Police Assistance Committee of Nigeria (SA/PAC) and its affiliate Association of Tradesmen/Women and Artisans have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and other security agencies to ensure the coming elections are conducted freely, fairly and peacefully across the country.

The PAC pledged its full support to mobilise its members nationwide to assist the police and other security agencies through information dissemination and intelligence gathering that could enable them track down and apprehend people who may want to disrupt peaceful elections during voting.

In a statement issued in Lagos, after a two-day election-monitoring training programme conducted for its members, comprising chairmen, secretaries and PRO’s of trades associations and artisans, Director General of the organisation, Dr. Martins John-Oni, commended the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on the recent new postings of states commissioners of police and other measures taken towards mobilising the police force, to carry out diligent and professional duties during the elections.

The PAC also pleaded with the various political parties and their members participating in the elections to play   by the rules and avoid creating tension before, during and after the elections.

While recalling similar roles played during past elections held in the country, the PAC enjoined INEC, the police and other security agencies, as well as other monitoring groups to cooperate with its members during the exercise.
