For the companies’ Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lucky Ikechukwu Ujomu, he has within the short period taken his company to the next level.
In this interview with The Sun, Mr. Ujomu shares his success story, his challenges, future plans and lots more.

Can you tell us more about yourself and how your journey into real estate began? My name is Lucky Ikechukwu Ujomu. I’m from Delta State; Ibusa in Oshimili Local Government. I was born in a family of 12 and I am the 5th child. I was born on July 9, 1976. I am married with 2 children. My wife is from Edo Benin. I’m the MD/CEO Luckybay Homes Nig Ltd and Luckybay Estate And Properties Ltd. I started as a real estate Broker in 2009. I was able to save enough money to start my first project in 2013 but it was very tough because there was no support. It took me 5 years to complete my first project which is two 5 bedroom fully detached duplex. I sold 2017/2018 and that was my major breakthrough and with the help of God, Luckybay Homes has grown into what it is today as one of the best real estate development companies in Nigeria. We specialize in building affordable luxury houses.

 

 

What’s your educational qualification? NCE.

 

 

Would you say your background contributed to your choice of business? Not at all. Growing up, I always have passion for real estate and oil and gas business so it was an easy choice for me.

 

 

What inspired your business name; LuckyBay?

I will say my personality.

 

 

How would you rate the real estate business in Nigeria?

Right now real estate in Nigeria is the surest investment that guaranties your 100% profit returns every year.

 

 

What are the major challenges you encountered while starting up? 

Funds and land grabbers.

 

 

How did you overcome those early days challenge? 

God grace and my determination.

 

What are some of the risks involved in running such a business in Nigeria? Buying land from wrong source is a very big rick.

 

Who are your mentors in real estate business? 

I’ll say myself because I am passionate about real estate business.

 

 

If asked to have a one on one session with a renowned businessman in the world, who would you pick and why? 

I will pick Roman Abramovich; he’s a philanthropist and he has a large heart came from a poor background.

What are the major lessons a beginner in real estate business must take note of? Be smart and have patient.

For now LuckyBay build only in Lagos State but we have plans to extend to Abuja and Asaba.

Ever had a down moment that made you almost give up? 

Never a down moment except when I was having issue raising funds which is one of the major problem we have in real estate in Nigeria.

Passion and integrity.

 

 

Do you believe the Nigerian youth should be given the opportunity to lead country? 100% and that the way forward.

 

 

Would you take a shot at politics if the opportunity presents itself?

Yes, sure. If given the opportunity.

 

 

 

What’s your take on Nigeria’s government ban on Twitter? 

Well, I think it is totally wrong for Government to ban Twitter or any social platform because most businesses are done online these days.

 

 

In your line of business what are those areas you would want the government to look into and take actions for a better Real Estate Development in Nigeria? 

In aspect of funding and make documentation more faster.
